When Dawn Spooner and her partner, David Godfrey, saved coupons in the Evening Standard to enter a prize draw for a £250,000 luxury riverside apartment at Greenwich Millennium Village, little did they think that they would be the lucky winners!
For Dawn, 38, a civil servant, and David, 47, who is currently unemployed - the decision to enter the competition set into motion a chain of events that was to change their lives:
“Of course, we hoped we would win, but we never dreamed it would actually be us,” said David, who lives with Dawn, in Dorking, Surrey, “In fact, we entered three times, however, we were utterly speechless when we were told we had won!”
The couple initially went into a state of shock, after which David admitted to downing quite a lot of wine!
“It was like winning the lottery. We were literally jumping up and down, leaping all over our house, cheering, and telephoning everyone we knew,” he laughed. “It was just the most amazing experience ever.”
The couple - who originally entered the competition in November - were handed the keys to their new Watermark apartment when it was completed in August. As part of the terms of the competition, their beautiful new home was also furnished and decorated by ELLE Decoration to the value of £10,000. The speechless couple are now enjoying the benefits of life at Greenwich Millennium Village, before deciding whether to rent it out, or sell it on:
“It would be wonderful to stay here, but we really need the money,” admitted David. “The development has a wonderful atmosphere, and it would be perfect for someone who works in London and wants a superb new environment to live in.”
To David and Dawn, the win has literally been life changing. David can now retrain and is considering journalism, whilst Dawn, a talented artist with a Fine Arts degree, can pursue her dream of becoming a painter and selling her work.
Greenwich Millennium Village represents a revolutionary concept in design and style. The exciting new urban quarter, close to The Dome, is just one stop from Canary Wharf on the Jubilee Line and an easy tube ride into Central London.
The Watermark phase, where David and Dawn’s stunning new one-bedroom apartment is located, enjoys a privileged position with waterside views:
“We have been amazed at the fantastic views from our home. I couldn’t believe just how wonderful the London skyline could be from this vantage point, and there are some brilliant views of the Thames,” said David. “Our friends are literally queuing up to get a chance to stay here, so I don’t think we will have any difficulty in finding a tenant, should we decide to rent.”
David and Dawn are now looking forward to a very happy future thanks to their win, however their good fortune hasn’t stopped them from entering more prize draws:
“We have also entered another draw to win a holiday home in the Bahamas,” laughed David. “Perhaps our previous win will bring more good luck our way!”
Watermark at Greenwich Millennium Village, is nearly sold out, however, Parkside, the newest phase, is now taking shape. The external elevation for Parkside is more linear than Watermark, yet, utilising steel, timber and terracotta tiles, is equally distinctive. Designed by award-winning architects, Proctor & Matthews, Parkside will feature a blend of 171, one, two and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses.
Prices for the new Parkside phase will start at £195,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and from £255,000 for a two-bedroom apartment. The remaining homes at Watermark start at £264,000 for a two-bedroom duplex apartment.
