All of the Residential Division's regions, together with Copthorn Homes and our In Partnership Division have all successfully achieved a National Safety Award for the year 2000.
In light of the Government's and the Health and Safety Commission's plans for "Revitalising Health and Safety" all organisations are being challenged to set themselves targets for improving their health and safety performance and to demonstrate that they are reaching best practice standards.
All companies have had to show lower than average accident rates, good safety policies, safety plans and a commitment to health and safety at the highest board level. In addition to these requirements the Group has had to provide details of two significant advances in health and safety for the target year.
Sir Neville Purvis, KCB, Director General of the British Safety Council, says: "The National Safety Awards highlight organisations that reach the top levels of health and safety. They are a mark of a proven and significant achievement in safety standards. By making safety an important feature of everyday work practice, your company is reducing accidents and ill health while improving productivity and profitability."
In a message to winners, Prime Minister Tony Blair MP has written: "Your efforts and commitment have made a real contribution to the health of your business and the health of your workforce. I send award winners my very best wishes and encouragement to build on your successes."
The winning divisions will receive their awards in London on the 18th May.
