Countryside Properties with its partners Southern Housing Group and London Borough of Hackney, has won the prestigious Gold Award for the 'Best Partnership Development' category at the 2002 What House? Awards. The Gold Award was for the 'Millennium Plus at the Nightingale Estate Regeneration Scheme in Hackney where more than 300 homes on the Nightingale Estate are being replaced by new homes for rent, shared ownership and sale, using the Dutch 'Tunnel Form' method of construction.
"It is a fitting tribute to all the partners who put in so much time, effort and commitment to make Millennium Plus a success", said Dale Meredith, Development Director, Southern Housing Group. "We are delighted that this groundbreaking project has won such a prestigious award."
David Everett, Managing Director, Countryside Properties' In Partnership Division said "Our aim was to regenerate the estate, with full resident involvement, to provide a modern and innovative scheme of the highest quality. We are therefore very proud that with our Housing Association partners, Southern Housing Group and the London Borough of Hackney and local residents, our hard work has been recognised by the industry at these awards."
The What House? judges explained " 'Rethinking Construction' agenda was a challenge. The Nightingale Estate has met it. Design innovation, supply chain initiatives, the dynamics of partnership and community involvement make for a striking scheme to regenerate, revitalise and rethink, building 200 new homes for rent and sale in a five year £20 million project."
The What House? awards are referred to as `the Oscars of the housebuilding industry`. The ceremony to announce the winners was held on Friday 15th November 2002 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, where over 1400 people gathered to hear who had been picked as the winners.
