After nearly a decade of introducing innovative and flexible living to Essex housebuyers at the ever-popular Great Notley Garden Village in Braintree, Copthorn Homes is heading out of town.

The award-winning housebuilder has been delighted with its outstanding success at Great Notley Garden Village, since it first made its presence felt in 1993. The superb, village-style community was the very first development to experience the Copthorn name, as it was here that the brand was originally launched eight years ago:

“This is truly the end of an era for Copthorn Homes,” confirmed Neil Armstrong, Marketing Director for Copthorn Homes. “We were initially conceived as the Countryside Properties’ answer to the growing demand for fresh, bright and stylish homes for first-time buyers who wanted a more sophisticated option to the traditional one and two bedroom houses. However, in the past few years, we have grown and evolved into a totally unique and highly individual brand, with our own distinctive identity. You could say we’ve come a long way!”

Copthorn Homes has experienced a phenomenal rise, expanding from building just 40 homes a year eight years ago, to over 500 today. The bright, fresh and modern Copthorn approach to housebuilding may well have started with several developments at Great Notley Garden Village during the 1993/1994 period, however, the last developments at Great Notley, Hawthorn Rise and Hunters Lodge, are perfect examples of just how far the Copthorn brand has evolved.

Hawthorn Rise - ingeniously presented as a stylishly designed hamlet – featured two bedroom apartments and maisonettes, and a choice of three and four bedroom detached houses, all of which were able to fully maximise upon light and space thanks to original designs and imaginative flair.

Copthorn Homes has also established itself as a provider of innovative homes, in many cases moving as far away from the first-time buyer ‘starter’ image as possible, with the advent of substantial, five and six bedroom luxury homes, with rooms in the roof, such as those found at Hunters Lodge.

“It is fair to say that, with a Copthorn Home, buyers can ‘expect the unexpected’,” continued Neil Armstrong. “We have taken a bold, brave approach to many of our designs, pioneering open-plan living space, building conservatories on the upper floors and incorporating unusual glazing features such as glazed walkways, to certain homes.”

Copthorn Homes has certainly come a long way, and so have its buyers. Many remain brand-loyal and have ‘grown up’ with the company. Now, some are living in their second Copthorn home, which is potentially a home for life, thanks to the way in which Copthorn homes creates in-built flexibility and adaptability.

Great Notley Garden Village was considered one of the best choices for those searching for a balance of practical, yet stylish, housing in a beautiful parkland setting. Boasting carefully planned and sensitively landscaped open spaces, with a village green, retained woodland and a country park, Great Notley Garden Village offered a superior quality environment in which to live, as well as many convenient amenities:

“We will be sorry to say goodbye to the area which we consider our birthplace,” concluded Neil Armstrong, “However, we are very proud to have made our mark on this superb community and are now looking to the future with a wide range of other, innovative developments throughout London, Essex, Kent and Hertfordshire.”

But that is not the end for Copthorn Homes in this part of Essex; a new development is planned for Chelmsford, following the acquisition of 2.16 acres of prime land in the established, residential area of Beeleigh Link, Chelmer Village.

The Courtyard - which will feature 27 homes in total, comprising six, two-bedroom apartments, and 11 two-bedroom and 10, three-bedroom homes – will offer buyers the opportunity to become part of a stylish and imaginative new development which has all the advantages of being designed by Copthorn and being part of an already thriving and established community. Prices at The Courtyard are likely to be in the region of £130,000 to £300,000. Construction has now begun on site with the first homes available for occupation from Spring 2003.
