Shortlist announced for Alan Cherry Award

The late Alan Cherry CBE DL 23 April 2012

A shortlist of nine eminent ‘placemakers’ has been announced for the Alan Cherry Award for Placemaking.  The annual award is presented in recognition of the significant contribution made to the quality of placemaking in their communities by a leading figure in the public sector.  It was first awarded in 2011 to David Ubaka, the Head of Design (Urban Realm) of Transport for London. The winner will be chosen at the annual Alan Cherry Debate and Award in London on Friday 27th April.

This year’s shortlist comprises:
• Mark Brearley, Head of Design for London at Design for London
• Aman Dalvi, Corporate Director of Development and Renewal at Tower Hamlets Council
• Andrew Donald, Director of Regeneration and Major Projects at Brent Council
• Robin Buckle, Head of Urban Design at Transport for London
• Mike Hows, Head of Regeneration at Greenwich Council
• Graham King, Head of Strategic Planning and Transportation at Westminster Council
• Colin Wilson, Head of Strategic Planning, The Greater London Authority
• Barry Shaw OBE, Head of Build Environment, Essex County Council
• Dan Taylor, Senior Regeneration Officer, Southwark Council

The award honours the memory of the late Alan Cherry CBE DL, the founder of Countryside Properties.  Alan Cherry’s commitment to high quality placemaking was well known and his vision was always to create places for people to enjoy a high quality of life through good design, placemaking and environmental quality.
