Shaping the environment at Accordia

At Countryside Properties’ Accordia in Cambridge, the cornerstone of the design is the environment.

Designed around a framework of 700 mature trees, over a third of the development is dedicated to open space. From productive gardens with fruit trees, herbs and berries to formal lawns, reedbeds and meadows, the existing mature landscape has been enhanced with new and diverse green spaces between the mews courts, greens and squares. Running along the west boundary is Hobsons Brook, an established and important wildlife corridor for Cambridge.

Each home has been designed to overlook one of these green spaces. Each space is linked to the next by a network of foot paths and cycle ways. Low key streets, homezones and subtle traffic calming measures make Accordia a green oasis in a city centre location.

Chris Crook, Managing Director of Countryside Properties comments: “At Accordia the environment is very much an extension of the architecture. Each property benefits from a wide variety of both private and communal outside spaces, to enable residents to enjoy their unique surroundings.”

Careful consideration has also been given to the environment in the construction of the homes. Wherever possible, timber has been procured from managed, FSC-approved sources, and insulation materials are zero ozone-depletion rated. In addition, green ‘sedum’ roofs have been used on apartment buildings, providing a habitat for organisms as well as being low maintenance and an excellent insulator.

Features such as dual-flush toilets, A-rated appliances, excellent sound insulation and timber frame construction have resulted in Accordia receiving a BREEAM Ecohomes rating of ‘Very Good’.

Furthermore, Countryside Properties has considered the long-term environmental effects of creating new homes in Cambridge, and has provided each home with dedicated bicycle storage for at least two bikes. The cycle paths that have been created across the scheme link to existing routes into the city centre, enabling residents to cycle into town through green surroundings.

Accordia also has excellent links to public transport, and its close proximity to Cambridge city centre helps give it sustainability on every level.

Prices at Accordia start from £350,000 for a two bedroom apartment. For more information, please contact the sales office on 0845 071 2065 or visit www.accordia.uk.com
