Regeneration of Christian Fields moves forward

Phase 1 of the regeneration of Christian Fields 30 November 2009

Moat has awarded a contract to Countryside Properties to develop the majority of the second phase of the Christian Fields regeneration project in Gravesend, Kent.  The £11.94 million contract covers 94 new homes, comprising 75 houses and 19 apartments.  It forms a significant part of the second phase, which includes nearly 160 new homes for affordable rent, shared ownership and private sale.

The large scale regeneration of Christian Fields follows a £7.3 million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency and the transfer of land at nil cost from Gravesham Borough Council.  In total the 208 homes will be regenerated into a new community of 426 high quality, mixed tenure homes.

Countryside Properties will be updating the properties to a modern energy-conscious specification with solar water heating and photovoltaic panels being installed in most properties.

Cabinet member for housing Cllr Anthony Pritchard said: "It is very good news that this scheme continues to progress building on the success of phase one. The council is determined that this scheme goes ahead producing excellent housing for the residents."

Steve Nunn, executive director: development and new business at Moat, said; “We are delighted to be moving forward with the next phase of homes at Christian Fields. It is really great to see the impact that the new homes are having in the community and we look forward to working closely with Gravesham Borough Council and Countryside Properties to provide even more high quality housing for the local people of Gravesend.”

Countryside Properties’ director, Michael Hill, said:  “It is very satisfying to see the overall ambience of the estate improve as we move on with our work for Moat.  Residents are delighted to see their estate being renewed and genuinely appreciate the modern homes that we are building.  Our work with Moat has shown that regeneration can reduce anti-social behaviour and increase the quality of life for everyone.”

The homes in the second phase at Christian Fields will be finished from early 2011 onwards.
