First time buyer Guy Roberts, decided that it was time to find a home of his own, after spending many years living with others, however, after several disappointing visits to homes on the second-hand market, he finally decided to take his mother’s advice and buy new.

Guy, a Press Officer with the British Council, had seen an advertisement in a London newspaper for South Quarter, award-winning housebuilder, Copthorn Homes’ superb new development that is part of the regeneration of Peckham, but it was his mother who actually suggested that he take a look:

“We were driving past and she felt I should take a closer look to see what it was like,” said Guy. “When I did, I had to rely mainly on the brochure and the advice of the sales negotiators, however, I felt that the development had a lot to offer”

Guy, previously from Tooting, admitted to having a few initial misgivings about the Peckham area, and was, by his own admission, also feeling somewhat jaded about buying a home:

“I had been looking for the right place for some time, but nothing much had really caught my eye, and I’d also had a bad experience with a prospective home in Brixton, which had turned out to be truly awful, so I was wary”, he continued. “Also, people tend to think of ‘Only Fools and Horses’ when you say ‘Peckham’, so I was ready to be sceptical. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of facilities nearby, and the brochure for the development also really impressed me.”

South Quarter is set to become a new landmark in Peckham. The development will feature a total of 108 one and two bedroom apartments, created to resemble a traditional Victorian London terrace in keeping with the existing architecture, however, once inside, the scheme will feature a variety of differently designed apartments, all benefiting from Copthorn Homes’ award-winning flair for innovative design.

There will also be 11 townhouses - due for release early next year - each includes a garage to the rear, accessible through a pair of security gates, and interior layouts that feature spiral staircases, integral conservatories and superb open-plan living areas:

“I was very impressed by the sheer quality, excellent finish of the homes and the range of shopping nearby,” enthused Guy. “I would say that South Quarter and the nearby facilities were truly light years ahead of what I had previously been looking at.”

Guy chose a one-bedroom apartment as it met with all his requirements for a high quality, well proportioned home, within easy reach of a gym, a supermarket, and excellent transport options.

South Quarter could hardly have a more convenient setting. From its location in Kelly Avenue, it was perfect for Guy as it was within easy reach of excellent local amenities including first-class shopping facilities combining major high-street names with an eclectic mix of small, specialist shops, Oriental supermarkets and Caribbean grocers.

The newly created Central Square in the immediate vicinity boasts a state-of-the-art library, a multiplex cinema and the Pulse leisure centre, the latter of which was of great interest to Guy. In addition, nightlife and entertainment is plentiful with restaurants, bars and cafes less than a mile from the centre of Peckham and with Southwark’s and Docklands’ fashionable nightspots and eateries within a short cab ride.

Peckham has excellent transport links with New Cross and Elephant & Castle providing an efficient tube service around the capital, meaning that Guy can get to his office in Trafalgar Square with ease. Peckham Rye and Queenswood Road BR train stations are also close at hand; Gatwick and Heathrow airports are also easy to access.

Guy was also impressed by the fact that Copthorn Homes was such an innovative and visionary developer:

“I had never heard of Copthorn Homes before,” he admitted, “But I soon learned that the Company had been named Housebuilder of the Year and had also won numerous other design and service awards. The entire buying process went very smoothly, thanks to Copthorn Homes and its excellent sales team on site. They really helped to manage the buying process efficiently and professionally, whilst keeping me informed every step of the way, which was a great help, as I have a demanding job.”

Prices at South Quarter currently start at £182,995 for a two-bedroom first floor apartment, one bedroom properties will follow shortly.
