Countryside Properties has been chosen by Bury Council as preferred developer for the multi-million pound regeneration of the Sun Quarter in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester. Working with UK Land and Property, the Group will transform the residential and retail experience in Radcliffe town centre.
The development will comprise a total of 330 apartments comprising 68 one bedroom and 240 two bedroom homes, and 22 two bedroom duplex units. The plans also include 55,000 sq ft of retail space and affordable housing, as well as a 6,210 sq ft gallery for the work of one of Germany's most eminent artists Ruckeriem, as well as a sunken sculpture by the river, bus station, new market, café gallery on the riverfront and residential parking.
Countryside Properties' Chief Executive, Graham Cherry says: "We are delighted to have won the contract to develop the Sun Quarter in Radcliffe. We were enthused by the challenging nature of the brief and have welcomed the opportunity to develop a scheme which focuses on deliverability. We genuinely believe that this is an exciting opportunity to create a vibrant new heart for Radcliffe."
Wayne Campbell, Leader of Bury Council said: "I am delighted that this new and exciting development for Radcliffe will achieve many of the councils' ambitions such as delivering a better choice of quality housing and improving town centres and neighbourhoods.
Area Board Chair Tony Cummings said: "We were very impressed with all the bids submitted but felt that the bid by Countryside Properties pushed the boundaries of the brief and went one step further in delivering a new 'fit for purpose' 21st Century town centre in Radcliffe. It will result in new retail and residential accommodation for the centre of Radcliffe making it a vibrant town centre and a hugely desirable place to live."
