The vision for the future of Mann Island has just been unveiled at a public exhibition by Neptune Developments Ltd and Countryside Properties. The plans for an exciting new destination on Liverpool's waterfront will offer a vibrant addition to this World Heritage Site.
The proposals preserve and frame the views of the city's Three Graces, the Port of Liverpool Building, Cunard Building and the Liver Building with simple, elegant buildings that blend into the skyline.
Broadway Malyan Architects have designed three buildings encompassing new public spaces and a covered area. Their designs have already received the support of English Heritage, Liverpool Vision, LUDCAP, and Liverpool City Council, with a very positive review from CABE.
The development proposals include 100,000 square feet of high quality commercial office space in a linear commercial building lining (close to) The Strand, while two triangulated residential buildings face towards the dock edge and will contain 370 one and two bedroom apartments.
The new public spaces will reconnect the waterfront with the City Centre and open up access to previously enclosed areas of the dock with 25,000 square feet of leisure and retail space at ground level across all three buildings.
Steve Parry, Managing Director of Neptune Developments Ltd, said: "Our proposals will bring people and commercial activity to the waterfront which will support the proposed Museum of Liverpool. It will complement and not compete with Liverpool's internationally recognised waterfront landmarks."
Ian Kelley, Subsidiary Managing Director for Countryside Properties commented: "This is a fantastic opportunity to create an outstanding new scheme in 2008's Capital of Culture. We hope the local community will like the scheme and share our vision of combining public buildings with homes and offices which have been designed to the highest standards. Countryside Properties is proud to be working in Liverpool and look forward to a long and close working relationship with the community."
Matt Brook, Associate Director of Broadway Malyan, said: "The contemporary scheme, which has been designed to be respectful to its setting, creates framed views of the Three Graces whilst providing a dramatic new skyline which will be instantly recognisable.
"We have a strong track record of delivering major projects and are very excited about our involvement in this significant scheme which will contribute to Liverpool's regeneration."
