Mike and Mary Easun, have lived in their delightful character cottage close to Bookham High Street for 41 years and were looking forward to enjoying a carefree retirement, with no intention of moving away from their friends and the village they love. However, their property comprised over an acre of land and its upkeep involved a considerable amount of time and hard work, so when developers approached them, inviting them to relinquish a portion of their land for new homes, they took the suggestion very seriously.
Having been Chairman of the Leatherhead and District Countryside Protection Society for two and a half years, Mike Eason is only too aware of Government pressure on the Mole Valley District Council, to build more new homes in town centre locations. As far as conservation is concerned, building on his existing plot would serve three very relevant purposes. Firstly the extra houses would not encroach on green belt land, secondly the land being within easy walking distance of Bookham centre means the new residents would not need to use a car to go shopping, thereby reducing air and noise pollution and finally, the resultant extra trade would assist the economy of the thriving village.
Mr Easun commented 'We were approached by a number of interested developers, but only Countryside Residential were prepared to meet our stringent personal and environmental requirements and retain most of the trees I had planted over the years. The Company showed an exceptional commitment to reflecting the character of the rural surroundings and having already heard of their excellent reputation we both feel completely happy that we have made the right decision. Countryside has been meticulous with the details, and has not sought to persuade us to do something we might later regret. With a smaller garden to manage we will now be able to make the most of our retirement and are looking forward to more holidays!"
Richard Rawson, Sales and Marketing Director for Countryside was equally enthusiastic, "I am delighted Mr and Mrs Easun are so pleased with their decision. Introducing new houses into an existing residential area is not always easy. Our aim is to build very high specification properties, perfectly suited to today's demanding lifestyles, which still succeed in merging aesthetically with their existing surroundings. Land in Surrey is at a premium and these houses have already resulted in many positive enquiries, so we don't expect them to be on the market for long".
The development comprises 5 three and four bedroom houses and is ideally situated in a quiet residential area, within walking distance of Bookham Village, which boasts an actively thriving community. With their proximity to the Village, the local primary school and having the added bonus of being within the catchment area for the much sought after Howard of Effingham Secondary School, these properties are well suited to all lifestyles, from the active retired to the growing family.
Prices are in the region of £250,000 - £375,000 and anyone requiring further information should call the regional office on 01372 370130 or visit the website at www.countrysideresidential.co.uk or via e-mail: st@cpplc.com
