Wildlife will be protected with a nature reserve on a luxury new development by Countryside Residential at Long Ashton, on the outskirts of Bristol.
Specialist management of the land on the development at Providence Lane will be employed to protect the habitat of a wide range of birds and other species.
Several interlinking parcels of land totalling some two acres have been set aside on the 5.5 acre development to provide areas of nature conservation and strategic landscaping.
The development consists of 18 detached four and five bedroom split-level homes, all with double garages, and some of which enjoy panoramic views to the Mendip Hills and across the local golf course.
Countryside Properties are utilising landscape consultants Cooper Partnership of Bristol, who with the Conservation Consultancy of Bath developed a management plan to ensure that the wildlife areas would be retained, protected and improved for the future.
Nigel Evers of the Cooper Partnership at Hampton Road, Redland, said: "The development site was previously derelict although parts had become important for wildlife."
"This scheme has been designed to retain the woodland and other important vegetation which provide an established landscape setting for the development and a natural habitat for wildlife. This is an integral feature of the development."
David Green of the Conservation Consultancy said: "This is a very interesting site which has become a rich haven for a wide variety of wildlife over the years.
"It has a cliff face of geological interest, and hosts a high diversity of different species of native and migrant birds, from warblers and bullfinches to thrushes, robins and swallows.
"Our role will be to manage the site on a regular basis to maintain the habitat for the benefit of both the wildlife and the new residents."
Clive Buckley, Technical Manager of Countryside Residential, said the Long Ashton development was a classic example of how developers can work in harmony with conservationists to maintain natural habitats and protect local wildlife.
"We have a reputation for building small high quality developments which being built in the local architectural style harmonise with their environment.
"At Long Ashton we believe that every effort should be made to conserve the natural wildlife habitat which is a haven for so many different species of birds, some of which are becoming increasingly rare."
