Countryside Properties in partnership with Swan Housing Group and Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust are creating a key worker housing development on the Oldchurch Hospital site in Romford to provide new homes for NHS staff.
This £30million redevelopment of part of the hospital site will comprise 225 homes that will be offered to staff employed by the Trust, other local NHS staff and other key workers. The scheme will also include over two acres of public open space.
The new homes will be available from 2008 and will offer various types of accommodation at different rental values providing properties for 520 Trust staff and other key workers.
Trust, Chief Executive, Mark Rees said, 'It is great to know that part of the Oldchurch site will go on to benefit so many key workers who really need a helping hand into affordable, quality housing. The accommodation will improve the stock of housing that we currently have available for staff, much of which is out of date. The brand new accommodation will be a perfect match for the site and will offer a greatly deserved and much improved, modern environment.'
Mark Thompson, Executive Director of Swan Housing says: "Swan is delighted to have been successful with this contract and look forward to working with the Trust and Countryside Properties to provide quality accommodation and services to those people who are providing vital support within the area. We are committed to playing a full part in the provision of housing for 'key workers' and view this scheme as an important landmark in the provision of affordable homes for NHS staff"'
David Everett, Managing Director of Countryside Properties (In Partnership) says: "This is a really exciting project and we are delighted to be working alongside Swan Housing Association to provide high standard homes that will benefit key workers, now and in the future."
The key worker housing accommodation will support the new hospital and replace dated accommodation currently being used on both the Harold Wood and Oldchurch sites.
The demolition of existing buildings is expected to start within the next month and the construction of the new homes will begin next year.
