Homes priced £1million and above used to be within the reach of a select few only. However, with the number of sales of homes worth over the £1million mark in England and Wales nearly doubling over the past year , more and more of us are reaching the dizzy heights of owning million pound homes.
According to recent figures released by the Land Registry , a total of 1,032 £1million-plus homes were sold in England and Wales during the first three months of this year, 58% more than a year ago.
Countryside Properties' Accordia development in Cambridge city centre has proved extremely popular with buyers looking to own their own exceptional property. Only 6 homes of this nature remain at the prestigious development on the sought-after Brooklands Avenue, including four 'Sky' two 'Air' housetypes.
Chris Crook, Subsidiary Managing Director for Countryside Properties said: "The success of Accordia demonstrates that homes priced £1million and above are becoming more accessible to an increasing number of buyers. The 'Sky' and 'Air' homes really are spectacular and they certainly stand out from anything else currently on offer on the Cambridge market. With so few homes remaining here, buyers will have to act quickly."
'Sky' is a light and spacious six bedroom split level villa that has been creatively arranged over four floors. The home provides a flexible open plan layout with interior spaces linked to the exterior by terraces and overlooking the courtyard garden with a light-filled atrium through the centre of the house to connect every level to each other.
A unique living environment has been created by opening up spaces vertically as well as horizontally giving the home a feeling of space throughout. A triple height glazed stairwell and the spectacular central atrium form the focal point of the home. This atrium illuminates the dining room, opening onto a sunken living room with double height ceiling and extensive windows leading onto the garden.
The semi-detached houses are inspired by the traditional villas along the avenue, forming part of a quartet of homes that create a unique street frontage.
The design concept of 'Air' is based on the idea of 'living in a garden', with the home defying the traditional constraints of a separate house and garden. Terraces, balconies and courtyard gardens are provided at varying levels, blurring the conventional boundaries between outside and inside.
A contemporary gas fireplace with low limestone hearth and pebbles forms the centre piece of the first floor living room, and under-floor heating with individual room temperature controls is fitted throughout the home.
The specification is of the highest standard. Kitchens include 'A' rated stainless steel appliances from AEG. Throughout the home a combination of luxurious reconstituted limestone tiles and oak veneer strip flooring contrasts with elegant oak and glass staircases.
The master suite occupies the entire top floor and it has its own dressing room, luxury en-suite and a private terrace which can be a welcome, tranquil retreat.
Both 'Sky' and 'Air' also have a separate first floor studio situated over the garage, served by its own staircase and en-suite facility that is perfect for a private guest suite, office or games room.
Accordia comprises 378 homes and apartments that challenge the traditional boundaries of the home and garden.
