Mark Ashley, 39, a financial advisor, has expressed his delight in his brand new three-bedroom family home at Ventura, an exclusive new development on Britain’s only new island community at St Mary’s Island in Chatham, Kent.
On the site of the former Royal Naval Dockyard, St Mary’s Island covers 150 acres including 20 acres of parkland and leisure space, and is part of the wider Chatham Maritime regeneration project.
Ventura, the latest phase by Countryside Maritime, a joint venture between Countryside Properties and SEEDA (the South East England Development Agency), comprises a mix of contemporary two bedroom apartments and three and four bedroom townhouses.
Mark Ashley bought the home with his partner Corina Lovelock, 33, and lives in the property with their daughters Ellie,7, and Kaitlin, 5. Mark comments: “Living at Ventura feels like being on holiday 365 days a year. The development has a fantastic feel about it and so much to offer the children. They love it here.”
Mark continues: “What has been created by Countryside Maritime here is really clever. Features of old Kentish style architecture contrast with the contemporary designs, which creates the sense of an established community rather than that of a brand new development. What’s more, the marinas and riverside walks combine to offer fantastic, laid back living for families.”
Mark Ashley comments: “Although our home at Ventura will provide us with a very strong investment for the future, that wasn’t the reason we bought here. We now have a very high standard of living, first class security and an ideal environment to bring up our family.”
The apartments and townhouses at Ventura all have one feature in common – flexibility. Each home has been designed to provide spacious, open plan living ideal for both relaxation and entertainment, which can be used in a variety of ways to suit every family’s unique lifestyle.
St Mary’s Church of England Primary School is located on the Island and has recently been extended to double its capacity from 200 to 400 pupils. The new Doctors’ Surgery is situated in the heart of St Mary’s Island and a community centre, which opened at the end of 2004, provides excellent facilities for a variety of uses from adult groups to children’s parties.
Countryside Maritime has won recognition from a number of organisations for its eco-friendly approach to development and has been highly successful in creating an inclusive sustainable community for all ages to enjoy.
The accolades awarded to St Mary’s Island, Chatham Maritime include: Silver in the ‘Best Sustainable Development’ category at the What House? Awards 2004; a Building for Life Silver Standard - a joint initiative from CABE, the House Builders Federation and the Civic Trust; and a commendation from WWF-UK’s inaugural Sustainable New Homes award.
First class transport connections make this an easily accessible location. Frequent train services to London Cannon Street provide a journey time of 47 minutes. Services to Waterloo and London Bridge are also available. Chatham Maritime is located close to the M2 and M20, while Heathrow and Gatwick airports are all within easy reach via the M25.
Prices at Ventura start from £165,000 for a two bedroom apartment, £275,000 for a three bedroom townhouse and £325,000 for a four bedroom townhouse. All homes come with parking facilities. For further sales information please contact Countryside Maritime on 0845 071 2071
