Countryside Properties and the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) have received planning permission from Medway Council for their next joint venture on St. Mary's Island at Chatham Maritime.
The Council has given Countryside Maritime the green light for its latest development on the Island, which is located opposite Henrietta Chase at the north of the Island and benefits from views over the River Medway.
The 3.78 acre site comprises 71 two, three and four bedroom homes and one bedroom apartments, 18 of which are affordable properties which will be provided in conjunction with a housing association.
Chris Crook, Managing Director of Countryside Properties says: "We are delighted that our proposals have been approved and we are looking forward to starting work on site in Spring of next year. St. Mary's Island has proved extremely popular with residents and it is great that we can continue to meet demand."
Jonathan Sadler, SEEDA's Project Director, Chatham Maritime, said: "We already have a thriving, vibrant community on St Mary's Island and this latest scheme will be a welcome addition to the other developments already at the site. There is a huge amount of activity here at the moment, with a new Odeon cinema opening last week and Marks and Spencer opening at the Dockside Outlet Centre, while another housing scheme, Axis, is currently being built at St Mary's Island. Construction of a 90-bedroom hotel will also begin in the next few weeks, making this a very exciting time to be at Chatham Maritime."
St Mary's Island is Britain's only planned island community and forms part of the 150 acre Chatham Maritime regeneration project in Kent. Nine hundred homes have already been built on the Island and approximately 2,000 are planned for development, providing homes for over 5,000 residents. Countryside Properties' existing schemes include Axis, Ventura, The Fishing Village and Northshore.
