Countryside Properties and Catalyst Housing have been selected by Slough Borough Council as the preferred bidder to progress the Britwell regeneration project in Slough, Berkshire.  The project includes two sites within the Britwell estate providing a total of 255 homes - 154 for private sale, 54 for shared ownership and 47 for social rent.  Also to be included are around 1,500 sq m of shops, possibly including a health centre, parking and a bus turning facility.

The two sites are located on Long Furlong Drive and Wentworth Avenue.  As part of the plans the existing shopping facilities along Wentworth Avenue will be re-provided on Long Furlong Drive.  Over 90 per cent of the homes will be houses, with a range of two, three and four-bedroom houses in addition to some one and two-bedroom apartments in small three-storey buildings, each with nine homes.

The Britwell regeneration will create a ‘garden village’ with traditional streets, home-zones and green spaces that will support the wider Britwell area.  For example, there will be a local employment and training strategy that encompasses the supply chain, local labour and apprentices and substantial Section 106 payments to the Council, which are currently being negotiated.  The homes will be tenure-blind, all will have parking and there will be decent size gardens for all houses and amenity space for apartments.  Homes are to be built to Code Level Three of the Code for Sustainable Homes, this standard being met through a combination of measures including photo-voltaics and fabric improvements.

Deputy Chairman of Countryside Properties, Richard Cherry said:  “The selection of our partnership team with Catalyst Housing is a significant step in a process that started in April last year and that could be expected to see us start on site in early 2013, leading to completion currently scheduled for late 2016.  We are excited that the new homes will offer substantially improved facilities for residents and it is good that we have been able to introduce our ‘It's Your Choice’ scheme to allow tenants' choices of interior finishes.”

Catalyst Housing’s Director of Development, Julia Moulder, said:  “This is a real opportunity to work with the Council and local residents to make a positive contribution to the area.  We hope that new facilities, such as the improvements to the park and the provision of a family friendly café will be a great resource for local people.  We will be working with Countryside Properties to create a range of opportunities for people to buy a share in a new home, and providing much needed social rented accommodation for the Council.  We are delighted to be part of this exciting scheme.”
