Countryside Properties with its partners Notting Hill Housing Group and London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, has won the prestigious Bronze Award for the 'Best Partnership Development' category at the 2003 What House? Awards. The award was for the Edward Woods Estate, Shepherds Bush, where 61 new homes have been built for affordable rent and 61 homes for sale by Copthorn Homes, a subsidiary of Countryside Properties.
Working in co-operation with residents has been a key theme for the partnership of Notting Hill Housing Group, PTE Architects and PRP Project Services - employer's agent for Notting Hill Housing Group. The partnership's winning bid to redevelop part of the 812-home estate was submitted to the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in March 1999.
Ingrid Reynolds, Acting Chief Executive, Notting Hill Housing Group said "Notting Hill is pleased to regenerate Edward Woods, helping bring much needed affordable housing to central London. We are especially proud of the funds driven from private sales to help provide a new public park and further improvements to the rest of the estate. We look forward to further opportunities working alongside LB Hammersmith and Fulham and Countryside Properties".
Michael Hill, Countryside Properties' Business Development Director said "As always we bid for these awards on behalf of our partners, who in this case include the Notting Hill Housing Group, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and local residents. The award reflects the commitment to a partnership-based approach to the regeneration of the estate". The What House? judges explained "This was an ambitious scheme to upgrade a run-down inner city estate and the project team had to overcome a number of difficulties along the way, including a complex contractual situation. Despite the problems, the partners gelled together and worked in close consultation with the residents to produce a notable result".
The What House? Awards are referred to as 'the Oscars of the house building industry'. The ceremony to announce the winners was held on Friday 21st November 2003 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, where over 1600 people gathered to hear who had won.
