Olympics spurs major regeneration in East London & Thames Gateway 7 July 2005

Following the announcement that the 2012 Olympic Games will be held in London, it will be the first time the Olympics has been held in Britain since 1948.  It will lead to major regeneration in East London and Stratford in particular where the Olympics Village will be located.  It will also undoubtedly add momentum to the regeneration initiatives planned for the Thames Gateway.

Countryside Properties has already delivered 5,000 new homes within the Government defined Thames Gateway region and we are currently involved in schemes in Barking, Dartford, Gravesend, Greenwich, Sittingbourne and Chatham which, among others, will deliver a further 8,000 new homes.

Commenting on the Olympic bid decision, Alan Cherry, Chairman of Countryside Properties commented: "The fantastic success of the bid is a great endorsement of the public and private sector working together to position London as a city intent on progress and providing a lasting legacy for future generations.  We would hope the partnerships established to drive the regeneration initiatives forward will add increased focus to the delivery of schemes within East London and the Thames Gateway, and in creating sustainable communities.  An enormous amount has been achieved to reach this stage and we are delighted to be one of the major partners committed to delivery and renewal in this region."
