19 July 2000

'Regional Housebuilder of the Year', Copthorn Homes, is soon to make its first mark in Kent, with the forthcoming development of a former brownfield site located in the heart of historic Royal Tunbridge Wells. Work will commence this month on the building of 24 two and three bedroom apartments and a retail unit.

The striking development has been designed to draw on the diverse character and appearance of the surrounding buildings and combines the modern use of glass and steel balconies and canopies, with more traditional slate, render and brick.

The building incorporates a varied roofline and is arranged on 2, 3 and 4 storeys with a four-storey roundel creating a focal point. Copthorn Homes, known for its commitment to innovative designs, has included a three bedroom penthouse apartment within the feature roundel, which benefits from a large, private roof terrace and superb views of the town.

The three residential floors are centred around a landscaped central open courtyard with glazed covered walkways and timber decking. Fully glazed stair towers provide natural daylight and also give access to the apartments via a perimeter walkway. Many of the apartments on the upper storey benefit from vaulted ceilings with full height glazing creating loft style space and most apartments include glass block walls and large glazed areas leading onto steel balconies. Residents will also benefit from semi-basement car parking.

The development is ideally located in the town centre, with excellent access to the many leisure and shopping facilities nearby, and half a mile from the mainline railway station in Tunbridge Wells, which offers a direct service into London Bridge (journey time approximately 45 mins.). The A21 with links to the M25 is also easily accessible.

The apartments are expected to be available for sale from summer 2001 with prices estimated to range from £120,000.
