When Countryside Properties first designed the award winning Great Notley Garden Village in Braintree, Essex, it was decided that like all villages that have evolved over time, it had to have a Manor House; something substantial that would enhance the village and create a focal point at the end of one of the grand tree-lined avenues.
Four years ago, the Manor House was built. It is an imposing residence that has certainly become a landmark in the area. As there was no 'Lord of the Manor' at the time of conception, however, Countryside carefully constructed the Manor House as three separate houses that are designed to look like one.
Nick Woodward and his business partner Terry Martyn saw the Manor House when it was under construction, and fell in love with it at first sight. "We were looking for something really special to live in, that had to be accessible for London commuting", said Mr Woodward, a 52 year old tax consultant. He continues, "But when we saw the Manor House at Great Notley, we knew that that was where we were going to live. We bought all three parts of it - room for us and more besides!"
Property values continue to rise in the village, and the Manor House is now for sale. Mr Woodward said, "I am sure we could wait and make a lot more money by selling it in a few more years, but the temptation has been too great and we are going to fulfil our dreams and go to retire in Australia!"
The Manor House is a magnificent Georgian-style property set back in its own garden. Each of the three houses within the main house is a substantial four-bedroom family home with its own separate entrance, garden, double garage and high specification fixtures and fittings. According to a local expert, it is likely to achieve listed building status in future years.
Great Notley Garden Village is an inspirational new development by Countryside Properties, incorporating all of the aspects and amenities you would expect to find in a typical English country village that has evolved over many decades. Considerable care is being taken to enhance the existing landscape with wide areas of open space, woodland and a large country park, all linked by a network of footpaths and cycleways.
When it is completed, Great Notley will incorporate 2000 new homes, 180-acres of public open space, including a 100-acre country park and a six-acre village green, a new day nursery, shops, schools, a new doctor's surgery, veterinary surgery, church, village pub and public art, as well as further community and leisure facilities and a 400,000 sq. ft. business park.
Great Notley Garden Village is ideally located, just two miles from Braintree train station with links into London Liverpool Street (journey time approx. one hour). It is directly adjacent to the A120 Braintree bypass with access to the M11, the M25 and Stansted Airport.
