When Sue and Bill Cowling purchased one of developer, Countryside Maritime's new waterside town houses at St Mary's Island, the Chatham developer was not immediately aware of the unusual talent Sue possessed for designing and making cushions displaying maritime admiralty charts.
It was not long however, before the Company's Sales Consultants discovered her secret and when they brought it to the attention of Sales and Marketing Director, Richard Rawson, he was quick to acknowledge that her particular skill could be just what he was looking for. "We value our clients' good will very highly and customer satisfaction is of paramount importance. When Sue Cowling agreed to make cushions for us, personalised with the Medway chart on one side and the Countryside Maritime logo on the other, I knew this was the perfect gift to welcome our purchasers to their new home. The cushions are screen printed on natural canvas with the Countryside blue piping and are beautifully made," he said.
Sue, who has an environmental planning degree, was granted a special license by the Admiralty, allowing her to reproduce their charts on cushions, bags and T-shirts. Having been in business for 16 years she and her husband Bill are highly experienced in the retail trade and for the past 15 months have enjoyed running their shop in Blue Water, where they sell dolls houses and miniatures, many of which are made and decorated by Bill.
"Bill and I love sailing and when we saw the waterfront houses at St Mary's Island we knew we would not find a more ideal location," said Sue. "We hope to have our own boat very soon and with this in mind we have already reserved a mooring in the basin. I am delighted with Countryside's appreciation of my work, the charts are so beautifully produced it is good to know that so many people will be able to enjoy them."
St Mary's Island is an exciting and comprehensive urban regeneration programme, which enjoys a spectacular setting on the South bank of the River Medway and will provide homes for more than 4,500 people. It offers its residents an unrivalled way of life that will eventually combine, restaurants, cafes, shops and a leisure complex with modern office facilities, in addition to primary schooling and health care.
