Neptune Developments Ltd and Countryside Properties PLC welcome the decision of the City of Liverpool to grant permission for their circa £120 million development at Mann Island in the City Centre.
Following positive support from English Heritage, CABE, Liverpool Vision and LUDCAP, the Planning Committee's formal endorsement of the scheme means work can start on site in Spring 2007.
The pivotal site resting between the Pier Head and the Albert Dock will become a vibrant waterfront destination comprising dockside cafes and restaurants, shops, sheltered public spaces, a new exhibition venue, 376 apartments and a 140,000 square feet of high quality commercial office space.
The visually striking design, by award winning architects Broadway Malyan, has been conceived to frame and preserve key views of The Three Graces, whilst the black granite surfaces of the triangular apartment buildings subtly mirror the shades and textures of the dock waters.
The development's key aim is to create a new place for people. It will enliven and reclaim the site of former private business premises and reconnect the City Centre to The Pier Head and the proposed new Museum of Liverpool.
Steve Parry, Managing Director of Neptune Developments, said: "We are delighted to be finally moving ahead with this scheme. This is a not only one of the key development sites for Liverpool but one of the most important in the whole of the North West. It demands a development of exceptional quality and sensitivity and that is what we will now deliver.
"We consulted extensively on this scheme before we submitted our application and responded to comments made with amendments to the design. The overwhelmingly positive support we received is reflected in the decision of Planning Committee. We are all now eager to get on site and make our vision for Mann Island a reality."
John Grealis, Regional Director Major Projects for Countryside Properties, said: "We are delighted to receive the planning authority's endorsement of our proposals. We will now move forward and procure the earliest possible start on site to deliver this stunning development."
Architect, Matt Brook, Director of Broadway Malyan, said: "I'm delighted that our designs for Mann Island have secured planning permission. It is a fantastic project for Broadway Malyan and a landmark building for Liverpool."
