Countryside Properties has completed the purchase of a 90-acre site for the development of a new community to be known as Priors Green near Takeley, Essex.
The £225 million project includes plans for 731 new homes as well as a new neighbourhood centre providing retail and community facilities, and a community hall. A site for a new primary school is also proposed, along with 10 acres of public open space including sport and recreational facilities.
Alan Cherry, Chairman of Countryside Properties, says: "Countryside Properties has been committed to this project for a number of years now, working closely with Uttlesford District Council and Essex County Council to create a masterplan for Priors Green. We are delighted to have finally completed the acquisition of this important site, reinforcing our reputation as accomplished strategic land developers".
He continues: "The scheme offers an excellent balance between open space and the built environment especially in the context of the strategic expansion of Stansted. The design of new communities such as this is absolutely crucial."
Priors Green is located to the east of the village of Takeley with the south eastern part of the site falling within the Parish of Little Canfield. With easy access to the new A120 bypass both Stansted Airport and the M11 are just minutes away.
The archaeological and ecological works are now complete on site and construction of the main infrastructure will begin in August this year. Twenty five percent of the new homes at Priors Green will be affordable; the first phase housing for sale is anticipated for release in Spring 2007.
