Countryside Properties PLC ("Countryside"), one of the largest housebuilders in the South East and with growing activities in the South West and North of England, announces that is has acquired and will redevelop a 714 acre site at Weston Hall, Crewe.

The site was previously owned by The Co-operative Wholesale Society and has planning permission for a mixed use development valued at £120m.

The acquisition will be phased over a number of years, with the land being drawn down in tranches as the development proceeds. Divided by the A531, the site is five miles east of Nantwich, Cheshire, three miles from the M6 Motorway and three miles from the West Coast Mainline Railway.

Weston Hall will be the largest strategic development to be undertaken by Countryside in the North West since the Group established operations in the region in 1997.

The development will comprise 500 new homes divided into five hamlets, ranging from two bedroom village-style cottages to substantial detached country houses, all designed in the local architectural style. A number of commercial and community buildings, including a community hall, are planned.

Work is scheduled to commence in September 1999 and is anticipated to be completed in 2007 with the first release of homes scheduled for summer 2000.

This significant acquisition represents an excellent opportunity for Countryside to create another prominent and highly attractive new community in the North West. The catchment area for the site is enormous with Birmingham and Manchester both being within 45 minutes. Weston Hall is a further demonstration of Countryside's regional expansion and will be a showcase for our expertise in community development.
