The 'What House?' judges explained, "Countryside has always enjoyed an outstanding reputation, but this year there has been a distinct edge and vitality to everything they have done. Their slogan reads 'Thinking beyond today' and it is a worthy one, for some housebuilders have been criticised for not looking beyond Friday's sales figures. Countryside have always built a nice product, kings of the elevational treatment, with devotion to streetscape and layout, be the development rural or urban, and be the design requirement vernacular or contemporary. Their customer care charter is no marketing sop, but a first-class service to which buyer testimonials testify."
In addition to this accolade, Countryside Properties also won the title of 'Best Medium-Size Housebuilder'; 'Best Partnership Development', for the Burdett Estate project in London's Tower Hamlets by Countryside Properties' In Partnership Division; and ' Best Exterior Design' for homes at The Village, Countryside Properties' development in Stoke-sub-Hamdon, Somerset. Copthorn Homes, part of Countryside Properties PLC also won the silver prize in the 'Best Exterior Design' category, bringing the total to an outstanding 5 awards.
The prestigious awards, sponsored by The Sunday Times, are referred to as 'the Oscars of the housebuilding industry'. The ceremony to announce the winners was held on Friday 16th November 2001 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, where over 800 people gathered to hear who had been picked as the winners.
