A garden is the most important requirement people have when looking to buy a new home, according to a recent report by the Halifax. A recent Workplace Employee Relations Survey, however, has revealed that the UK has the longest working week in the EU, with employees working an average of 43 hours per week. With little time left for leisure pursuits, homes that offer outdoor space that require little or no upkeep are becoming increasingly popular.
In response to this growing demand, Countryside Properties has incorporated low maintenance roof terraces into each of the five three-bedroom Georgian-style townhouses at its ‘Queen Charlottes Place’ development at Kings Hill in West Malling, Kent. Offering an ideal solution for purchasers who do not have the time to maintain a garden, these stylish new homes benefit from an outdoor area providing a space in which to relax and entertain.
Phil Baxter, Managing Director of Countryside Properties’ South Thames division, comments, “While gardens are extremely popular with people looking to buy a new home, the time and effort required to maintain this outdoor space can be immense. The new townhouses we are creating at Queen Charlottes Place incorporate a south facing terrace, offering purchasers their own private outside space, which needs little or no effort to maintain.”
Each of the townhouses has been designed to echo the architectural style of the eighteenth-century Georgian home, including elegant cornices of white stone and trimmings of white painted woodwork porticoes, railings and sash windows, while some of the properties incorporate ‘Juliet’ balconies. The living space is spread over four storeys with a basement level that will provide additional storage space, together with a utility room.
Features a range style cooker, the open-plan kitchen and dining room are located on the ground floor with doors leading out onto the decked terrace. On the first storey, there is a living room with feature bay window, a study, a third bedroom and en-suite bathroom, while two further bedrooms, with en-suite bathrooms, are offered on the top floor.
Countryside Properties was the first developer to start building at Kings Hill almost a decade ago. Set in a 650-acre landscaped environment, the development incorporates hundreds of acres of undulating terrain extending across large areas of protected heath, parkland and mature woods. A 6,600 yard, par 72 golf course adjoins a full length driving range with a short game practice area, putting green and a pavilion-style clubhouse, which currently provides meeting rooms, a bar and a restaurant.
Kings Hill includes 1,850 homes, open spaces and play areas, with footpaths, bridleways and cycle-way networks linking the residential areas to a new commercial community. Amenities include a large supermarket, tennis courts, The Kings Hill Institute (part of The University of Greenwich), Kings Hill Nursery and Kings Hill primary school. The development also includes a public house and a community hall, and there are plans for a hotel and a medical centre to be created in the near future.
Located on the site of a former airfield, which was used during the Battle of Britain, Kings Hill lies on the outskirts of the historic town of West Malling, close to the M20 and with direct access to the M25. A shuttle bus service operates between Kings Hill and West Malling mainline railway station, which has direct links to London Victoria, London Blackfriars and London Bridge (journey times vary from approx. 40 to 60 minutes).
The townhouses at Queen Charlotte’s Place are currently available for sale, with prices from £299,950. The marketing suite is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. For sales enquiries telephone:
