Greenwich Millennium Village - 'Will break the mould'

Back to News

15 September 1999

Alan Cherry, Chair of the Greenwich Millennium Village project, has hit back at critics saying that there will be 'no dumbing down' on the scheme's tough innovation targets.

In a hard-hitting speech to the House Builders Federation Annual Conference today, Mr Cherry will say that the scheme will 'break the mould' and show 'the way forward for urban living and UK Housebuilding in the 21st century.'

The proposals at Greenwich incorporate nearly 1400 mixed tenure homes, commercial and retail areas, community facilities and a network of sustainable modes of transport. Wide ranging and tough targets have been set for reducing energy consumption, water use and construction costs.

Mr Cherry will add that all these targets "have been agreed with English Partnerships and all will be achieved over the lifetime of the project."
