Countryside Properties has been selected as a lead development partner in the regeneration of City Centre South in Stoke-on-Trent by the Housing Market Renewal Partnership - RENEW North Staffordshire.

The programme will see hundreds of millions committed to the transformation of the City Centre South area incorporating the area from Wellington Street across to Lichfield Street in Hanley, as well as Shelton and Etruria.

Barry Holmes, Director of Urban Regeneration at Countryside Properties, said: "We are delighted to be at the forefront of RENEW's top priority for investment in City Centre South and have the chance to radically transform the area and meet the needs of the local community.  The area has great natural assets with a real sense of community, an historic core, parks and closeness to the city centre."

"Our plan is to help create and enhance this community by providing a combination of sensitive regeneration and partnership working with RENEW to both improve and create homes. We are keen to preserve the best of the area whilst creating an excellent living and working environment for residents and local businesses. City Centre South benefits from great links to the rest of the city, which is attracting significant public and private sector investment."

Award winning developer Countryside Properties will work with RENEW, its many stakeholders and the local community to deliver the highest standards of environmental improvements, urban design and sustainability.  The next 10 -15 years will see the creation of a new community centred on the historic core with around 2,500 new homes, including affordable housing, and community facilities with a new primary school, cafes and canalside activities.

RENEW has earmarked almost two thirds of its £67 million budget for City Centre South and Middleport Burslem between 2006 and 2008, highlighting the significance of these areas for regeneration, with City Centre South as the priority Area of Major Intervention.

Hardial Bhogal, Director of RENEW North Staffordshire said: "Countryside Properties has proved their capability and commitment to us, our partners and the communities where they will be working. They bring with them innovation, experience, design excellence and a firm commitment to the long-term regeneration of neighbourhoods."

Over the lifetime of the programme, there are plans for 25,000 new homes, 13,000 refurbishments, 50,000 improvements and a significant number of demolitions. Three further areas are to be released early next year including Hanley North West, Hanley East and South Shelton.
