Pent-up demand and huge regeneration initiatives have made Barking one of the new hotspot East London Boroughs and now home to the latest residential development by Copthorn Homes, recently voted 'Housebuilder of the Year' at the prestigious Daily Telegraph/What House? Awards 2003.
Copthorn Homes has started work on 37 one and two bedroom apartments in two new buildings, which form part of the regeneration of the Gascoigne Estate by its sister company, Countryside in Partnership. Accessed from St Anns Road the mixed tenure development will comprise a total of 125 homes for private sale, rental and shared ownership.
The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is experiencing large-scale regeneration at Barking Reach and Dagenham Dock through brownfield land remediation, as well as in South Dagenham through restructuring at the Ford Motor Group. Improved road access to these areas has already attracted strong interest from the commercial sector and the Borough is expected to become a thriving new centre for business and commerce.
Martin Leach, Land Director at Copthorn Homes, commented, "The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the Thames Gateway have long been ripe for regeneration and with development focus moving to the east of the capital, it is finally starting to gather momentum. The improved aesthetics and commercial opportunities, combined with the area's superb links to the City and M25, will have a huge knock-on effect on the local housing market and my advice to investors and first time buyers would be to get in now while prices are still affordable."
Situated in a prime position close to London Docklands, Barking is starting to attract numerous up-market bars, restaurants and leisure amenities, as well as a developing arts scene with a number of creative activities, arts projects and theatres. Barking town centre has a good selection of high street stores and nearby Ilford offers further shops, restaurants and bars for the socially active. Of course, the cosmopolitan social scene and designer shops of Docklands and the West End are also just a short rail trip away.
Barking station is just half a mile away from the St Anns development with underground links on the District and Hammersmith and City lines, as well as mainline trains every five minutes at peak time that take around 15 minutes to reach Fenchurch Street. Alternatively, Ilford station is two miles away with a 15 to 20 minute journey into Liverpool Street. The A406 road runs right past Barking and provides a convenient link onto the A13 and A12 trunk roads for those travelling into Central London or out to the M25.
