19 December 2001

CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) has identified Countryside Properties as one of the most forward thinking and motivated developers in 2001.

As part of their Festive Five series, CABE have been announcing five Local Authorities, Public Sector organisations, Developers and Architectural Champions each week in December that have achieved the most in 2001.

Countryside is the company currently setting the benchmark.

Jon Rouse, Chief Executive of CABE

Jon Rouse, Chief Executive of CABE, explained the thinking behind Festive Fives; "The organisations we have chosen are those companies that are changing their philosophy and rising to the challenges of providing better buildings and places for homes, business and leisure."

He continued; "The House-Building industry is changing fast. Market segmentation is leading a number of house-builders to start developing premium products based on design quality and distinctiveness. Wimpey, Redrow, Berkeley and Wilcon all deserve a mention in dispatches. What sets Countryside apart is that quality counts across their range of provision. Whether we are considering high density urban schemes like the Millennium Community in Greenwich and The Edge at Booth Street in Manchester, or suburban schemes such as Great Notley and Thorley Lane in Essex, thought is always given to all parts of the scheme, including public space and detailing. Countryside is the company currently setting the benchmark."

The other Festive Five developers have been named as Hammerson, Nottingham University, Peabody Trust and Pizza Express.
