The project involves the provision of 208 new homes for rent and shared ownership over the next 4 years. It will have a total contract value of around £13M.
The Millennium Plus project celebrates the centenary of the Samuel Lewis Housing Trust in 2001. It will set new standards in the provision of affordable housing for the new millennium. These will include improved space standards, lower running costs for the occupiers and greater flexibility in the use of the home. The project will also set demanding targets for reductions in build costs, construction periods, defects and environmental impact. It is expected to draw on new design and construction techniques and materials to achieve these targets.
David Everett, Managing Director of Countryside In Partnership PLC, said "We are very excited about this project and are totally committed to fulfilling the wishes of the Samuel Lewis Housing Trust and local residents to create new homes to the very highest standards. We will be drawing on the construction innovations that we are currently researching for the Greenwich Millennium Village and other schemes and are confident of meeting the demanding targets that have been set for this project".
Countryside In Partnership PLC and the Samuel Lewis Housing Trust are currently carrying out the regeneration of the former New Kingshold Estate in Hackney, East London, and will be starting the redevelopment of the Marquess Estate in Islington in the summer of 1999.
