Copthorn Homes, a member of the Countryside Group, has been named Best Medium-Size Housebuilder of the Year at the What House? Awards, which was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane.
"Copthorn triumphed" in this category, according to the judges, who went on to say, "There is a real buzz about this company from the boldness of their design wares to their commitment to quality and customer care."
The developments of Copthorn's innovative new homes were described by the judges as, "Brownfield is the colour of the majority of their build with energy efficiency another driving force…", while at the same time, "remaining faithful to… an imaginative portfolio of constantly refined products". Management were also recognised by the judges for having, "an intensity about their customer focus and commitment to after sales service."
Managing Director, Tony Travers comments, "Building ever more innovative and exciting homes is the most visible aspect of what we do, but we have also invested a lot of time and money ensuring our role within the industry has evolved to incorporate broader issues.
"We have seen it as our responsibility as a developer to ensure environmental issues are taken into account before plans are drawn and materials decided upon, for example, 81% of our developments are currently on brownfield land. We are also constantly refining our customer care and increasingly we are investing in the personal development of our staff."
Mr Travers continues, "We are delighted that our efforts have been so well recognised and hope this indicates the beginning of a change in image for the housebuilding industry to one which does care about design, its customers and the environment."
Copthorn Homes has made its name with imaginative and innovative new homes, many of which include unusual features such as 'Rooms in the Roof', conservatories in upstairs bedrooms, open plan living with 'zones' instead of rooms, interior glazed walkways and studios above garages. In tandem, highly original marketing campaigns have communicated Copthorn's unique features and site visitor numbers are now at an all time high.
This prestigious award follows Copthorn Homes' success in the coveted 2000 Building Awards where it won the award for Regional Housebuilder of the Year and was cited at the Guardian sponsored Homebuilder Design Awards, where it was commended for its groundbreaking development, The Chronos Building, at Mile End Road, London E1.
