Innovative housebuilder Copthorn Homes, has once again been named a winner in the annual What House? Awards, by scooping this year’s Silver award for Best Interior Layout.

The design-led housebuilder took the award in the hotly contested category for its sparklingly original ‘Pomarine’ house design at the prestigious award ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London.

The judges were quick to note that the Pomarine, previously available at Waterstone Park, Stone, near Dartford, in Kent, is no ordinary home. Firstly, the four bedroom detached home is arranged over three storeys, just a small indicator that the Pomarine is genuinely able to offer something that sets it apart from the rest; and from the moment you step inside, its intelligently designed layout proclaims that there is so much more to the Pomarine than initially meets the eye.

Reg Banham, Development Director for Copthorn Homes accepted the award which was presented by actress Joanna Lumley:

“We are delighted to once again have been recognised for our design capabilities as are illustrated by the Pomarine,” he confirmed. “This home has been designed to capture and retain as much natural light as possible, and a particular emphasis has been placed upon maximising space and comfort, to make it the ideal home for the modern family.”

What House? Awards are widely regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry and the Copthorn Homes name has frequently featured in the roll of honour. Previous year’s awards include, among others, the triumph of being named the joint winner of the ultimate Housebuilder of the Year 2001 award won in conjunction with sister company, Countryside Properties plc, and outright Gold Winner in the 2001 Best Medium Sized Housebuilder category.

“We are particularly pleased to have won the Silver award for Best Interior Layout,” said Neil Armstrong, Marketing Director for Copthorn Homes. “Our homes all incorporate as many new ideas as possible to enable them to incorporate flexibility and adaptability into every day living space, and the Pomarine is an excellent example of just how a flexible a modern home can be.”

The Pomarine represents the perfect living space for modern families. On the ground floor is a stunning, open plan living space, comprising a large living room and a comprehensively fitted kitchen which widens into one of Copthorn Homes’ design hallmarks, a sparkling conservatory, designed to enhance natural light and maximise space.

On the first floor is a relaxed and generously proportioned bedroom ‘zone’ featuring two secondary bedrooms, and a generous master suite featuring a dressing area flanked by wardrobes and a superb en-suite beyond, built out across the garage space, and on the third floor is a large bedroom stretching the full width of the house, offering the privacy of self-contained accommodation, thanks to the inclusion of its own en-suite facilities.

Waterstone Park, set close to Bluewater in Kent, offers an inspired blend of homes, all designed with Copthorn Homes’ inimitable flair and imagination, and set within a ‘garden’ environment. Each home has been designed to blend beautifully with the unmistakable vernacular flavour of Western Kent, whilst proclaiming individuality and style.

As well as the famous Bluewater shopping mall situated just a short walk away, Waterstone Park is perfect for commuters, with the M25 just two miles away and London Bridge within a 39 minute train journey from nearby Greenhithe. The new Ebbsfleet high-speed rail link, scheduled for completion in 2006/7, will also bring London St Pancras Station within 20 minutes and Paris within just 2 hours!

Copthorn Homes has also announced that it has submitted a planning application to Dartford Council to extend its popular Waterstone Park development at Stone. A 29 acre piece of land - located around the Lafarge Technical Centre, which is due to relocate shortly – has been chosen for the creation of 450 new homes, which will constitute a second phase at the highly successful Waterstone Park. Over half the development will be built upon previously used land, furthering Copthorn Homes’ commitment, as a responsible housebuilder, to increase its already high share of the Brownfield land market.

Currently available at Waterstone Park are a selection of four bedroom townhouse-style homes, priced from, £280,000 and a choice of apartments, priced from £135,000 for a one-bedroom design and from £170,000 for a two-bedroom design.
