Local schoolchildren learned a valuable lesson in building for the future when they visited the exclusive new Churchfield development of luxury homes being constructed by Countryside Residential (South West) Ltd in the village of Llangattock near Crickhowell.
The youngsters from Llangattock Church-in- Wales primary school visited the development as part of a school project to survey local employment in the village.
But when they interviewed bricklayer Nigel Hoares they could not resist his invitation to help lay a course of bricks on one of the 12 new three, four and five bedroom homes which are being built.
School deputy head teacher Shahne Vickery said: "We set one class of infants the project to survey local people and those who work in Llangattock to build up a profile of village life here compared to that in nearby Caswell Bay.
"The builders were extremely helpful and informative, and the children really enjoyed their visit, particularly helping to lay bricks."
Countryside's regional Sales and Marketing Manager Nina Pelaou said: "We are always interested in ways of being involved with the local community and this was an ideal opportunity to help the children with their survey and give them a new experience.
"In years to come they may well come back and point out the bricks they helped to lay."
