Countryside Properties' Accordia development in Cambridge is winning praise across the board having scooped two prestigious awards.
Having already been acknowledged for its progressive design with a RIBA design award Accordia has won a Gold Building for Life Standard from CABE (The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment), the Government's advisor on architecture, urban design and public space.
The award is a national standard for design quality in new housing and Accordia was one of only three developments to achieve the Gold standard this year.
A collection of 378 houses and apartments, Accordia has been masterplanned by awarding winning architects Feilden Clegg Bradley and supported by niche practices Alison Brooks and Maccreanor Lavington. Unusually, the internal specification has also been developed by the architects who designed the properties.
The judging panel is headed by Building for Life Chair Wayne Hemingway, of Red or Dead fame. With a keen eye for exceptional design and place making, Wayne commented: "It's great to be uplifted whilst walking around a British housing development. It's developments like Accordia that can set a new benchmark for modern British housing developments."
Accordia has also won the Best New Family Home at the 2006 Evening Standard New Homes Awards for Accordia Air, a four storey villa designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley.
Judged, by a panel of industry experts and readers of the Evening Standard, Accordia Air was praised for being "a 21st Century take on the town house concept that is destined to be a 'modern classic' and a genuine family home with real 'wow' factor".
The win for Accordia is the second year in a row Countryside Properties has won the Best New Family Home at the Evening Standard New Homes Awards.
Chris Crook, Subsidiary Managing Director for Countryside Properties commented: "Receiving acclaim from the Government, housing industry and homeowners on Accordia is testament to our determination to create a completely unique development, not only in terms of its ground-breaking architecture and internal designs, but also in terms of sustainable modern city centre living in the UK."
With properties ranging in size from 469 to 3,827 square feet, open plan living is at the heart of the homes' designs at Accordia. Double height spaces, split levels and a series of balconies, terraces and courtyard gardens offer limitless opportunities within the home.
