Countryside Properties has joined forces with Servite Houses to create a landmark new development in Sedgwick Street, Hackney, East London. The £7.8million mixed-use scheme will comprise a one, two, three and four bedroom new homes for shared ownership, together with commercial space.
The project has been granted planning permission by Hackney Borough Council and work is expected to start on site in January 2007. The 6 and 12 storey building has been designed by Stephen Davy Peter Smith Architects and adds a bold and dominant element to the street scene with striking smooth blue brickwork that is complemented by timber cladding.
The residents will benefit from private balconies and landscaped communal terraces on the first and ninth floors of the building. Designed to achieve an EcoHomes 'Very Good' rating, the building incorporates solar water panels and a 'brown' roof at the top of the building to increase opportunity for wildlife habitat.
The new development will introduce a much improved public realm with new footpaths to Mackintosh Lane and at the entrance to the tunnel passing below the railway. There are also plans to further enhance the area with a selection of new trees and quality paving surfaces.
David Everett, Subsidiary Managing Director of Countryside Properties, says: "The new development at Sedgwick Street will provide high standard new homes that will benefit the community and will be an asset to Hackney. We are delighted to be working alongside Servite Houses on this exciting scheme."
David Markham, Commercial Director of Servite Houses says: "This scheme has been designed to give increased vitality, sustainability and desirability to the local area. Countryside Properties has a great record in creating quality developments and we are delighted to be working with them. We are looking forward to starting work and getting this scheme underway."
Peter Smith of Stephen Davy Peter Smith Architects says: "The scheme has been designed as a landmark for this area of Hackney. Through our experience of working with Countryside Properties we believe that they will create a high quality development to promote the regeneration of this area."
