The average deposit for a first-time buyer has trebled over the past six years, to 23.1% of the purchase price of their first home, according to a recent report by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. In many cases, this will total more than a £30,000 deposit. In addition, a number of young adults leave further education with large student loans to pay off, making it even harder to get a foot on the property ladder. In order to save money towards a deposit and to pay off various loans and overdrafts more quickly, many grown up children are returning to live with their parents in the family home.
The Beckley house design at Countryside Properties' 'Queen Charlotte's Place' development at Kings Hill in West Malling offers a practical solution to this modern day situation. This spacious three storey, five bedroom house offers 2,303 sq ft of living space and has superb top floor accommodation that could be used as a separate suite. This would provide the returning young adult with an increased amount of privacy away from the rest of the family. The top floor comprises a 'jack and jill' bathroom that interlinks two bedrooms, one of which could be used as a study or sitting room.
Helen Moore, Head of Corporate Communications at Countryside Properties, comments, "As a consequence of university debt and the large deposits many first time buyers need to get onto the property ladder, there is an emerging trend of young adults returning to the family home after graduating from university.
"While making sense financially, this new way of family life can be difficult to adjust to for both parents and children. With its spacious accommodation on the top storey, The Beckley house design offers an ideal solution, providing a returning grown up child a greater sense of independence, as it located well away from the family rooms on the ground floor."

The entrance hall of this luxurious family home leads into a large formal dining room at the front of the house, while the living room features a stone fireplace and French doors leading out into the garden. The less formal 'family' rooms are located towards the back of the house and include an open-plan kitchen and breakfast room. In addition, a conservatory has been incorporated into the layout of the house which allows the maximum amount of natural light into the home. The house also benefits from a separate utility room and a cloakroom.
The master bedroom of this spacious family home is located on the first floor and benefits from an en-suite bathroom and dressing room. In addition, there are two further bedrooms and a family bathroom on this floor.
Kings Hill is located on the outskirts of the historic town of West Malling, close to the M20, which provides direct access to the M25. A shuttle bus service operates between Kings Hill and West Malling mainline railway station, which has direct links to London Victoria (journey time approximately 40 minutes).
The Beckley house design is now available for sale, priced from £575,000. The marketing suite is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
