We have had a long-term commitment to BREEAM /EcoHomes which has been unsurpassed in our sector.
In this reporting period some 93% (2008 - 72%) of the homes we built, both
affordable and for sale, achieved at least a ' Very Good' or better EcoHomes and Code rating.
We currently have a residential development programme of 17,800 units that will achieve at least Code for Sustainable Homes level 3 rating.
In addition, the Group currently has a potential commercial development programme of over 4.9 million sq ft, including existing and proposed developments, for which we will be looking to achieve a minimum 'Very Good’ BREEAM rating.

To ensure that high standards are constantly maintained at all our developments in 2008 we fully integrated our monthly environmental site audits into twice-monthly Health & Safety and Environmental visits. As part of the audits, each subsidiary company’s performance is benchmarked against specific legislative and best practice environmental criteria. During the reporting period we did not receive an environmental prosecution.
-
During the reporting period the volume of paper that we procured increased slightly by 6.6% per person. The amount of waste paper and cardboard sent for recycling from our offices increased by 12% per person.
