Coopers Road, Southwark, London

Countryside Properties has undertaken a £19m estate regeneration scheme, Coopers Road, which is part of the Southwark Estates Initiative. It involved the phased replacement of four 1960's blocks with 154 new flats and houses for rent and shared ownership for the Peabody Trust. It received a CABE Building for Life Silver Standard in 2008.

The new homes, which have been designed with the extensive involvement of residents, are environmentally friendly with high levels of energy efficiency, reduced water consumption and the use of renewable and recycled building materials. Each phase was designed with a landscaped internal communal courtyard with play area to ensure a safe sustainable environment for the residents.

A Combined Heat and Power Plant provides hot water and heating to all the residents on demand. As a by-product of the heating system the power created is used to power the street lighting on the development.

Coopers Road received a commendation in the Civic Trust awards in 2006.
